Carla Mills - Long Bio

CARLA MILLS, ARNP, completed her undergraduate studies at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. She began her nursing career at Bellevue Hospital in the Emergency Department where she became a certified emergency nurse (CEN). Her experience at Bellevue included the general ER, the ER intensive care unit (ICU), and trauma unit. She rounded out her critical care experience at Beekman Downtown Hospital where she worked in the coronary care unit, recovery room, and the medical ICU before leaving New York for Ft. Myers, Florida, in 1989.

Carla expanded her scope of practice from critical care into home healthcare and rehabilitation nursing before returning to graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Master of Science degree (MSN) at the University of South Florida in Tampa in 1995 and was board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner shortly thereafter. Since moving to Naples, Carla has worked in private practice, at Naples Community Hospital in the Emergency Department, and at Naples Urgent Care, a walk-in clinic. She spent three years managing the medical care of patients seeking inpatient treatment for substance abuse and eating disorder problems at the Willough at Naples Psychiatric Hospital prior to joining the practice of Dr. Diane Brzezinski where she currently practices.

Carla has written a book, A Nurse Practitioner’s Guide to Smart Health Choices, specifically for patients with no prior medical knowledge seeking ways to improve their own health and prevent chronic diseases. She has also designed a computer database that enables both individuals and health professionals to identify individual health risks as well as track and measure their reduction.

Carla believes that the very best healthcare occurs before there is illness and that the very best care of all is self-care.
